I’m over the moon and beaming over the shiny news from the 2021 Moonbeam Awards results!

Our Little Series, which I conceived and was illustrated by the talented illustrator John Lim, has been a precious collaboration. And it happened with the wonderful support of our publisher Marshall Cavendish Children and our editor Lydia.

I will be beaming for a while!

Little Godwit found his wings to zip and zoom this past Sunday at the Singapore Writer’s Festival 2020.

I had the pleasure of zooming with Little Godwit as he found his wings and voice through Act 3’s online interactive performance of my book.

As the literary and performance arts world atunes to a new beat, I’m glad that Little Godwit found wind beneath his wings to soar along!

A few weeks back, my friend and read-aloud expert Suzanne Jung did an awesome storytelling video of Little Mole’s Awesome Star and I did a mini-introduction to introduce myself and her. This was for a preschool chain that approached me to contribute a storytelling session for this stay-home period.

National Heritage Board chanced upon it and asked if Suzanne and I could do a another storytelling video for them? They loved our combination of my author introduction and Suzanne’s amazing storytelling.

This has been a very eventful year for Little Godwit and me. Little Godwit launched off this year from a dark valley amidst stormy weather. I’m glad that this little book took flight and journeyed through the year to a sweet year-end.

Thanks for all your support for the Little Bird Who Could and here’s to a meaningful and restful year-end!

I’m an advocate for reading for pleasure. And that reading children’s picture books shouldn’t just be written off as child’s play. The benefits are so much richer.

“According to a study published by the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, reading just one picture book to a children every day exposes them to 78,000 words a year.

Researchers have calculated that in the five years before kindergarten kids who live in literacy-rich homes hear about 1.4 million more words compared with children whose caregivers don’t read to them. This is important for their future selves because the ability to communicate well is a skill which employers often cite as something they value in prospective employees.”

Read Fest!, a month long national reading movement by National Library Board, has just kicked off from now till end July. Reading movements like these help remind us to provide the word-wings for our little ones to soar and be better equipped to articulate their way in the world.

I was thrilled that the Star Learners preschool chain selected Little Godwit Finds His Wings as their mentor text for their chain-wide Star project. For this project, the centers took reference from Little Godwit’s story to create their own centre’s The Power of Stories projects.

I had the pleasure of visiting a centre that staged a puppet show based on my book. I also visited 3 other Star Learners centers to share with the children how stories come about and the story behind my stories.

I’m happy that Little Godwit, the left-behind bird who could, flew into many neighbourhoods in Singapore through this starry project.
